Bermuda

North Atlantic, not Caribbean Nonstop from 12 US airports Beach season May to October

Start with geography, because most first-time visitors get it wrong: Bermuda is not in the Caribbean. It lies in the North Atlantic, roughly level with the Carolinas, and its winters are cool and often windy. Beach season is late spring to early fall. That also flips the usual price pattern: the cheapest 3-star-rated room on Google Hotels was $313 a night with taxes on January 13, 2027 but $422 on July 14, 2027.

In summer it is one of the easiest island trips from the US. Flights from New York, Boston or Washington-area airports are short, the State Department rates it Level 1, exercise normal precautions, and the south shore has some of the prettiest small coves anywhere. The Bermuda Tourism Authority counted 199,193 air visitors and 467,525 cruise visitors in 2025.

Weather month by month

Best months by our weather score: June, July, August. Daytime highs, rain and sunshine are 2016–2025 averages at L.F. Who it is for, and who should skip it

Bermuda suits couples and families from the East Coast who want a short, safe, tidy trip with good beaches in summer. English is spoken, the island is compact, and you can spend a long weekend without losing a day to travel.

Skip it for a winter sun trip. Between December and April the water is cool and many beach days are off. For warmth then, look at Key West, Grand Cayman or our best islands to visit in January. Budget travelers will also struggle: there was no 3-star-rated room under $313.

Where to stay

  • South Shore (Paget, Warwick, Southampton) is where the best beaches and most resorts are. Coco Reef Resort was the cheapest 3-star-rated stay on January 13, 2027 at $313 with taxes; The Reefs Resort and Club was $355 and Grotto Bay Beach Resort $364.
  • Hamilton, the capital, has city hotels, restaurants and the ferry hub. In July, Rosedon Hotel was $523.
  • St. George's, at the east end, is the historic town and near Tobacco Bay.

Summer is tight. The cheapest room we found on July 14, 2027 was Rosemont Guest Suites at $422, and the BTA says hotel inventory remained strained during busy periods in 2025. It expects the redeveloped Fairmont Southampton to open in 2026, and the Elbow Beach Hotel, sold in 2025, to reopen by 2029.

Beaches

The south shore holds the famous beaches. Horseshoe Bay is the best known, a curve of pink-tinged sand with clear water; it gets busy on cruise days. Warwick Long Bay next door is longer and quieter. Elbow Beach is a long, open beach. In the east, Tobacco Bay is a sheltered, rocky cove that is good for snorkeling and children.

The water is clear and beautiful, but the swimming season is short, and some south-shore beaches can have surf. We score Bermuda 7.5 out of 10 for beaches. The BTA notes that beaches are open to dogs only from November to April.

Things to do

Bermuda has more to do than most beach islands. The Town of St. George is one of the oldest English settlements in the Americas. The Royal Naval Dockyard at the west end has the National Museum of Bermuda. Crystal and Fantasy Caves show off underground lakes, and the Railway Trail runs the length of the island for walking and cycling, with Spittal Pond and the Botanical Gardens along the way.

Add shipwreck diving on the reefs and golf, and you have several full days, which earns 7 out of 10 for things to do. Prices change and we did not verify them.

When to go: Bermuda is not a winter beach island

Bermuda's seasons are more like the Carolinas' than the Caribbean's. Summer, roughly June to September, is warm, humid and the best time to swim, with May and October as shoulder months. Winter, about December to April, is mild on land but cool in the water and often windy, which suits golf, walking and city breaks, not beach days. Our month-by-month table below shows the air and sea temperatures.

The island sits in the Atlantic hurricane belt. The season runs June 1 to November 30, peaking around September 10, according to NOAA's National Hurricane Center. The BTA blamed a very active 2025 hurricane season for weaker arrivals from August to October. Read our hurricane guide.

Getting there from the US

Fly into L.F. Wade International (BDA). Wikipedia's airline table lists American from Charlotte, Miami and New York JFK, plus seasonal Philadelphia; Delta from Atlanta and LaGuardia; JetBlue from Boston and seasonal JFK; United from Newark; and BermudAir from Baltimore, Boston, Newark and White Plains. BermudAir moves its Orlando flights to Orlando-Sanford on October 31, 2026, resumes Fort Lauderdale on December 20, 2026, and adds seasonal Grand Cayman and Providenciales from December 18.

You need a passport valid on arrival with a blank page; it is also required to fly back to the US. No visa is needed for stays of 90 days or less. Cannabis and CBD products, ammunition and pepper spray are illegal. See our passport guide.

Visitor numbers and cruise days

The BTA's 2025 year-end report counted 670,409 visitors, down 9.8%: 199,193 by air, down 1.9%, and 467,525 by cruise ship, down 12.7%. It said cruise numbers fell because of fewer scheduled calls early in the year and less capacity late in the year during repairs at the King's Wharf in Dockyard. Cruise passengers peaked from May to July, with more than 78,000 in each of those months.

Cruise ships dock at Dockyard, so Horseshoe Bay and the west end feel it most. On ship days, head east to St. George's or swim early.

What a trip costs

Bermuda is expensive in every season and most expensive in summer. With taxes and fees, the cheapest 3-star-rated room on Google Hotels was $313 on January 13, 2027 and $422 on July 14, 2027. Three summer nights at that price come to about $1,266 in rooms alone, and the next-cheapest July options were above $520.

The BTA estimates that leisure air visitors spent about $2,227 each in 2025, up 3.6%, driven by higher accommodation spending; hotels raised average daily rates by 10% while occupancy held at 63.5%. If you want Bermuda for less, go in the shoulder months, or treat it as a winter city-and-golf break rather than a beach trip.
