The best Caribbean island to visit in July

Ranked for July 24 Caribbean islands scored #1: Curaçao, 8.84 for July

July is when American families go to the Caribbean, and it is the month our summer data describes most directly: every island's summer hotel price on this site is the cheapest 3-star-or-better double for Wednesday, July 14, 2027. So the value scores behind this ranking are, quite literally, July prices.

The weather picture splits in two. The southern and flatter islands stay dry, while the mountainous Eastern Caribbean is in its wet season. The storm deduction grows a little, though the NOAA National Hurricane Center's climatology still places the first hurricane of an average season in early to mid-August. Curaçao leads comfortably, by 0.24 points, its widest margin of the year so far.

Curaçao

8.8/10
87°F high 83°F sea 1.7 in rain

Curaçao leads July by 0.24 points. Its weather score of 9.6 rests on about 1.7 inches of rain and steady trade winds, with 87°F (31°C) days and an 83°F (28°C) sea, and its storm deduction is half the usual because it lies south of the main track. The value score is the clincher: $62 in Willemstad on July 14, 2027. Teens get turtles at Playa Grandi and cliff jumping at Playa Forti. Plan around the midday heat and rent a car for the coves.

Jamaica

8.6/10
87°F high 85°F sea 2.5 in rain

Jamaica is second, with 87°F days, an 85°F sea and about 2.5 inches of rain. It has the cheapest July room in our data, $53 in Montego Bay, though a beach resort costs far more: Montego Bay Club Resort was $165 the same night. Nonstops come from 24 US airports. It carries the full storm deduction and a conditional verdict after Melissa. For a family summer week, Negril's long, shallow Seven Mile Beach and the Ocho Rios waterfalls are the draw.

Aruba

8.4/10
87°F high 81°F sea 1.4 in rain

Aruba is third, with a 9.6 weather score and only about 1.4 inches of rain. The sea is the coolest on the list at 81°F (27°C), which many visitors find a relief in July. Its beaches score 9: Eagle Beach and Palm Beach are wide and calm, and Baby Beach suits toddlers. The catch is price and density: the cheapest Noord room was $173 in July and the island is one of the most crowded in our Caribbean data. Nonstops run from 17 US airports.

86°F high 84°F sea 3.9 in rain

Puerto Rico ranks fourth. July rain rises to about 3.9 inches and it takes the full storm deduction, so its weather score falls to 8.3. On everything else it is the strongest island here: things to do score 9, 41 US airports fly to San Juan, and no passport is needed. It is the easy summer choice for families with teens. July rooms in San Juan started at $114. Book the bio bay at Fajardo or Vieques for a moonless night.

Exuma

8.2/10
84°F high 86°F sea 2.9 in rain

Exuma enters at fifth, with the warmest sea on this page, 86°F (30°C), 84°F days and calm summer water for the boat day into the Exuma Cays. Its beaches score 9: Tropic of Cancer Beach and Coco Plum are shallow enough for children. It is also among the least crowded islands we score, with 69,437 foreign air arrivals in 2025. Two things hold it back: things to do score 6, and the cheapest room in George Town was $225 in July. You need a rental car.

Antigua

8.2/10
86°F high 84°F sea 3.2 in rain

Antigua is sixth, with 86°F days, an 84°F sea and about 3.2 inches of rain, for an 8.6 weather score. Its beaches, 9 out of 10, are among the best here, and Dickenson Bay and Pigeon Point stay calm for children. It is the island where summer is not cheaper in our data: the cheapest town room was $155 on July 14, 2027 against $99 in January, and Dickenson Bay started at $178. Delta, United and American keep nonstops from Atlanta, Newark, Miami and New York.

83°F high 84°F sea 2.6 in rain

St. Martin is seventh, with 83°F days, an 84°F sea and about 2.6 inches of rain. July is quieter than winter on an island where crowding is the main weakness: its crowd score is the lowest in our Caribbean data. Simpson Bay rooms dropped to $111 in July. Teens get the jets over Maho Beach and water sports at Orient Bay; couples get Grand Case dinners. Day ferries to Anguilla cost $30 from Marigot.

Turquoise waves breaking on the rocky limestone shore of Washington Slagbaai National Park, Bonaire8

Bonaire

8.1/10
85°F high 83°F sea 1.9 in rain

Bonaire enters at eighth, with a 9.6 weather score, about 1.9 inches of rain and a calm 83°F sea on the leeward coast. For divers and snorkelers, it is the best summer choice on this page, with marked shore sites around the marine park and Klein Bonaire. It ranks last because its beach score is 5 and our page rates it conditional: non-divers run out of things to do. Rooms in Kralendijk were $95, plus a $75 entry tax per adult and a $40 nature fee.

How the July ranking was made

July weather is 55% of each score. It blends the daytime high, sea temperature, rainfall and sunshine, then subtracts a storm-season penalty of 0.8 points out of 10, halved for Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Barbados and Grenada. The other 45% is the island's year-round profile: our editors' beach and things-to-do scores and data on access, hotel value and crowding. Islands our own pages rate conditional, Jamaica and Bonaire here, give up 0.4 on that part. See how we score islands.

What a room costs in mid-July

The cheapest 3-star-or-better double for two adults on Wednesday, July 14, 2027, taxes and fees in where shown, from each island page:

Summer savings at the cheap end are smaller than many travelers expect. Bonaire adds a $75 entry tax per adult and a $40 nature fee for anyone who swims or dives, and Aruba a $20 Sustainability Fee per person aged 8 and up. Our checks cover only the cheapest rooms; resort rates can move differently, so compare the room you actually want.

Storm risk in July

July is still early in the season. NOAA says most Atlantic activity falls between mid-August and mid-October, with the peak on September 10. But July is not empty. Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Carriacou, part of Grenada, as a Category 4 on July 1, 2024. Barbados and Grenada sit 15th and 18th this month, mainly on rain rather than storm risk.

For a July trip, choose refundable rates, buy insurance that covers named storms before a storm is named, and keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center's outlooks in the week before you fly. Our hurricane and cyclone seasons guide has the details.

Calm summer water: Exuma, Bonaire and the boat days

Two islands enter the list in July for the same reason: the water. Exuma has the warmest sea on this page, 86°F (30°C), and our Exuma page notes that summer is calmer on the water, good for the boat days to the swimming pigs at Big Major Cay and Thunderball Grotto. Bonaire's leeward coast stays calm and clear for shore diving all year. Both are niche picks: Exuma's cheapest room was $225, and Bonaire has few sandy beaches. Families who want walk-in shallow water should look at Aruba's Baby Beach or Curaçao's Jan Thiel instead.

July festivals

Jamaica's Reggae Sumfest was held on July 18, 2026, at Plantation Cove in St. Ann, according to its organizers; no 2027 date was posted as of October 20, 2026. In Barbados, Crop Over is a three-month festival of music, food and culture that ends with the Grand Kadooment parade in August, so July is in the middle of it. Barbados ranks 15th in July on rain, but festival-goers should not be put off by the score. For the August finale, see our August ranking.
